Memory Card Mallow

Marsh mallow
Wallpaper, feel free to use

I was going through some old memory cards, to make sure there was nothing private on them, when I came across this mallow. The date in the EXIF data is 23 December 2000 at 5.28 -- clearly wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if it were taken at 12.23 on 28 May 2000, though. That seems a lot more reasonable.

Anyway, it was taken with my very first digital camera, a Fuji MX-1700 Zoom. At first glance this photo isn't of any worse quality than others I've taken with my latest super duper Sony camera. But if you look at the top of the flower on the right you can see why I gave up on this camera -- the blue outline of the petals. The camera reacted to extreme contrasts with coloured outlines, sometimes blue, sometimes purple or turquoise.

If this happens to you, the solution is as simple as it is tedious. You create a new layer in Photoshop, set the layer mode to Saturation and paint over the offending blue line until it is grey. It will be a lot less visible in the photo. Or you could buy a better camera. That's what I did.

Still, it's a pretty mallow.
